Description

Telopea 'Shady Lady Crimson' is a hardy and vigorous hybrid Waratah, bred from Telopea speciosissima and Telopea oreades, that overcomes one of the biggest limitations of traditional Waratahs, the need for full sun. This remarkable hybrid performs beautifully in semi-shaded positions, making it suitable for a far wider range of Melbourne gardens than standard Waratah varieties.

In Spring, the plant produces a spectacular display of large, bold crimson flower heads that are among the most striking of any Australian native. The blooms are long-lasting on the plant and exceptional as cut flowers, making 'Shady Lady Crimson' as useful as it is beautiful. The evergreen upright habit provides year-round structure and screening, while the flowers attract honeyeaters, lorikeets, and other nectar-feeding birds throughout the flowering season.

Adaptable to a wide range of soil types including clay, loam, and sandy soils, 'Shady Lady Crimson' is one of the most versatile Waratahs available for Melbourne conditions. It suits native gardens, formal borders, coastal gardens, and large containers, and is also available in red, white, pink, and yellow for those wanting to create a multi-coloured Waratah display.
