Description
There is something quietly beautiful about Erica bauera Pink Blush. Known as the Bridal Heath, this elegant South African native produces long, tubular flowers in the softest shades of blush pink, carried in clusters along arching stems of fine, needle like foliage. It flowers prolifically through winter and spring, bringing a delicate, romantic quality to the garden at a time when most other plants are still finding their feet.
Pink Blush grows into a graceful, open shrub reaching around 60-90cm tall, and it is as at home in a garden bed as it is in a large pot on a sunny patio. The flowers are a favourite with florists and make beautiful long lasting cut stems, so it earns its place in the garden twice over. Give it a sunny, well drained spot, keep the water up through dry periods, and it will reward you with months of delicate blooms season after season.

Growing & Care Guide
- Soil: Well drained soil is essential, with a slightly acidic pH preferred. Erica bauera will not tolerate waterlogged or heavy clay soils and will decline quickly without good drainage.
- Light: Full sun to light shade. It flowers most prolifically in a position that receives at least five to six hours of direct sunlight per day.
- Watering: Low to moderate water needs once established. Water regularly after planting while the plant settles in, then reduce to deep, infrequent watering. Keep moist during extended dry periods, particularly while in flower.
- Fertiliser: Apply a low phosphorus slow release fertiliser formulated for Australian natives or acid loving plants in late winter after flowering. Never use standard fertilisers high in phosphorus, which can be toxic to plants in the Ericaceae family.
- Maintenance: Low maintenance. Prune lightly after flowering each spring to maintain a compact, bushy shape and encourage fresh growth. Mulch well around the base to retain moisture and keep roots cool.
- Flowering: Flowers through winter and spring, typically from late June through to October in Australian conditions. Lightly trim after flowering to tidy the plant and promote a good display the following season.
