Description

Murraya koenigii (syn. Bergera koenigii), the Curry Tree, is a small tropical to sub-tropical tree prized across Asia for its intensely aromatic leaves, which are an essential ingredient in South Indian, Sri Lankan, and Southeast Asian cuisines. Fresh curry leaves impart a distinctive, complex flavour to curries, dals, chutneys, and rice dishes that dried leaves simply cannot replicate, making this a must-have plant for any keen home cook or edible garden enthusiast.

Beyond its culinary value, the Curry Tree is an attractive, dense, upright evergreen with glossy green aromatic foliage and sweetly fragrant white flowers that appear in spring, summer, and autumn, attracting birds and beneficial insects. Small black berries follow the flowers these should be removed promptly to prevent self-seeding, as this plant has weed potential in some regions.

Growing to 4-10m in its natural habitat but typically much more compact in cultivation and containers, the Curry Tree thrives in full sun to semi-shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types. Drought tolerant once established and suitable for tropical, sub-tropical, and warm temperate gardens across Australia.

Key Features:
