Laurus nobilis, commonly known as Bay Laurel, is a versatile evergreen tree known for its beautifully aromatic foliage used widely in cooking. Its dense, glossy green leaves and upright form make it ideal for clipped hedges, topiary balls, cones and formal garden structure. Though slow growing, it becomes extremely hardy and long lived, thriving in Melbourne’s varied climates. This species tolerates coastal conditions, wind and moderate frost, making it suitable for a wide range of garden styles.
