Sage Leaved Rockrose - Cistus salviifolius

Cistus salviifolius is a spreading evergreen shrub originating from Mediterranean climates. It
features soft grey green foliage and abundant white flowers during spring and into summer. Its naturally low, wide habit makes it ideal for covering banks, dry slopes and exposed sites where few plants thrive. It excels in poor sandy or rocky soils and requires minimal care once established.

Key Features:

• Soil: Best in sandy or well-drained soils; thrives in low-fertility and rocky sites. Avoid clay unless drainage is improved.
• Light: Requires full sun for compact growth and heavy flowering. Performs well in exposed hot, dry or coastal positions.
• Watering: Water during establishment. Once established, it needs very little water and is ideal for low irrigation gardens.
• Fertiliser: Apply a slow release fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth.
• Maintenance: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain shape. Avoid cutting back into old wood as regrowth may be limited.
• Flowering: Flower stalks may appear on mature plants; remove to maintain bulb energy.

Plant in an open, sunny spot and avoid overwatering in early stages. Once rooted in, it becomes extremely hardy. Mulch lightly to suppress weeds. Avoid thick mulch around the stems as Cistus prefers dryer conditions.
