Description

Banksia integrifolia, commonly known as Coast Banksia, is one of Australias most adaptable native trees. Growing naturally along the eastern coastline, it thrives in salt laden winds, sandy soils and exposed conditions. With upright growth to 4-10m depending on site and pruning, it is a premium choice for screening, windbreaks and coastal gardens. Its leathery green leaves have a striking silvery underside, and yellow cylindrical flower spikes appear across spring, summer and autumn, providing reliable nectar for birds and pollinators. This species is highly drought, frost and wind tolerant once established and performs reliably throughout Melbourne.

Key Features:

  • Highly tolerant of coastal wind, salt spray and exposed sites.
  • Dense evergreen foliage with a silvery underside.
  • Yellow flowers attract nectar feeding birds.
  • Excellent as a tall screen, windbreak or feature tree.
  • Handles a wide range of soils including sand and clay.
  • Low maintenance with strong drought and frost tolerance.
