Description

Coprosma repens 'Pacific Sunrise' is a genuine head turner. The glossy, wave-shaped leaves display a rich chocolate brown base overlaid with vivid hot-pink highlights that intensify through spring and autumn, creating a colour combination that is unlike almost anything else in the ornamental shrub palette. Compact, upright, and rounded in habit, it grows to approximately 1m tall and wide, making it equally at home in a large container on a balcony or courtyard as it is in a garden bed or mass planting.

The wave-shaped leaf surface catches and reflects light beautifully, giving the plant a high-gloss, almost tropical quality that works well in contemporary, coastal, and tropical garden designs. The colour is most intense in spring and autumn when the contrast between the chocolate brown and hot-pink tones is at its peak, though the plant remains ornamentally striking through all four seasons. It performs best in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil, and once established is highly drought tolerant and low maintenance.

An annual slow-release fertiliser, mulch around the base, and occasional moisture during dry periods is all 'Pacific Sunrise' needs to maintain its striking foliage colour and healthy growth. Generally trouble free and easy to grow, it is one of the most distinctive compact foliage shrubs available for adding bold, year-round colour to the garden.
