Description

Backhousia citriodora, commonly known as Lemon Myrtle, is a highly aromatic evergreen tree native to Queensland rainforests. In cultivation it typically reaches 4-10 metres and forms a rounded upright habit with lush green foliage. Its leaves release a strong, clean lemon fragrance when crushed, making it one of Australia's most valued bush tucker plants. Fluffy white summer flowers attract birds and pollinators, while the tree’s versatility allows it to be used as a feature planting, hedge, large shrub, or container specimen.

Key Features:

  • Strongly lemon scented evergreen foliage suitable for culinary and ornamental use.
  • Australian native species that supports wildlife and pollinators.
  • Naturally rounded, upright growth habit ideal for screening or feature planting.
  • Adaptable to garden beds, large pots, and courtyard settings.
  • Low maintenance once established with good drought tolerance.
