Description

Hymenosporum flavum, the Native Frangipani, is one of Australia's most beautiful and fragrant rainforest trees. In spring, this elegant upright tree erupts in clusters of sweetly perfumed yellow and white flowers that attract birds, bees, and butterflies in abundance filling the garden with both colour and life during the warmer months.

Native to the rainforests of eastern Australia, Hymenosporum flavum grows to 25m in its natural habitat but is typically much more manageable in cultivation, reaching 8-15m with a graceful, upright to oval form. Its dark, glossy green foliage provides a lush, tropical backdrop that complements the spectacular spring flower display beautifully. Classified as fire retardant, it is also a practical choice for gardens in bushfire-prone areas.

Adaptable and easy to grow, the Native Frangipani performs across most of Australia but is at its best in warmer climates with summer rainfall. It thrives in full sun to semi-shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types, making it a versatile choice for feature planting, streetscapes, parks, and tropical garden designs.
