Description

Corymbia citriodora the iconic Lemon Scented Gum is one of Australia's most recognisable native trees, instantly distinguished by its tall, upright form, breathtaking smooth white trunk, and slender grey-green leaves that release a fresh, distinctive lemon fragrance when crushed. Growing to approximately 30 metres, it produces masses of creamy-white winter flowers that attract honeyeaters and native bees during the cooler months, and its broad soil adaptability  clay, loam, sandy, and well drained soils alike. Combined with high drought tolerance makes it as practical as it is spectacular.

Key Features:

• The smooth, powdery white trunk is one of the most visually dramatic features of any Australian native tree, creating a striking focal point in the garden across every season.

• Slender grey green leaves release a fresh, distinctive lemon fragrance when brushed or crushed, a characteristic unique to this species among large Australian native trees.

• Its tall, upright oval canopy grows to approximately 30 metres, making it an ideal choice for avenue planting, large open spaces, and landscapes requiring strong vertical structure.

• Creamy white flowers appear in winter, providing an important nectar source for honeyeaters and native bees during the cooler months when few other large trees are in bloom.

• Once established, Corymbia citriodora is highly drought tolerant with low supplementary water requirements, making it well suited to Australia's dry summer conditions.

• It grows in clay, loam, sandy, and well drained soils, making it one of the most soil-tolerant large native trees available to Australian gardeners and landscapers.

• Maintenance requirements are minimal once established. Mulching and occasional watering during dry periods is typically all that is needed to keep the tree healthy.
