Description

Casuarina glauca 'Green Wave' is one of those plants that garden designers reach for when they need something that simply works. Fast growing, dense, and remarkably tough, this compact evergreen shrub produces a mass of fine, dark green foliage that gives the plant a soft, shaggy texture unlike almost anything else in the native plant palette. It fills space quickly, holds its form reliably, and asks very little in return, making it one of the most practical low-maintenance natives available for a wide range of garden situations.

Growing to 1 to 2m tall and wide, 'Green Wave' suits an impressive range of landscape uses from formal garden borders and mass plantings through to coastal gardens, rockeries, balcony containers, and underplanting beneath established trees. It tolerates full sun through to semi shade, adapts to clay, loam and sandy soils, and once established is highly drought, frost, and wind tolerant. These qualities make it an outstanding choice for low water garden designs and any situation where a reliable, long-lived foliage plant is needed without ongoing maintenance.

As a Casuarinaceae, 'Green Wave' benefits from a low phosphorus fertiliser to support healthy root development. Beyond that, keep it mulched and moist during dry periods while establishing, and it will reward you with years of dense, attractive foliage with virtually no intervention. Caterpillars can occasionally be present but are generally not a significant concern in established plants.
